By Joan Legair, Director of Women’s Ministries, Seventh-day Adventist Church – Quebec Conference

On the weekend of April 25-27, 2025, the Quebec Conference Women Ministries held a workshop empowering wives with Jesus’ love. It was about a woman being   the wife that God designed her to be as she is made aware that “marriage is to make you holy, not happy.”

Under The theme “His Tapestry” six different colours were used in six presentations by Dana Brady, Northern New England Conference Prayer Ministries Director; representing the fruit of the Spirit as well as women of the bible whose stories revealed how each embodied the essence of her name through faith, courage and devotion.

  • The colour Gold represented Joy and Wisdom was portrayed by Hannah whose name means “to show favor” or “be gracious.” She teaches us that true joy was rooted in trusting God even when we don’t see the outcome.
  • Lavendar represented Humility and Patience portrayed by Abigail whose name means “My Father is Joy. Wise and beautiful, she intervened to prevent David from bloodshed with humility and gifts. Humility doesn’t weaken us but positions us to receive peace and wisdom from God.
  • Green representing Kindness and Growth portrayed the Shunamite Woman, “Notable Woman.” She built a room for the prophet Elisha during his travels. We learn that kindness is like water to the soul. A woman of God creates a gentle strength in her home with grace-filled words and actions.

  • Scarlet represented Love and Intimacy as portrayed by the Shulamite woman in Song of Songs is devoted’ faithful, bold and beautiful reminds us that love in marriage is a holy gift- an other-centered commitment that reflects God’s covenant love.
  • Blue represented Peace and Trust portrayed by Ruth whose name means “Companion or Friend.” Her loyalty, diligence and faith positioned her to become a part of the lineage of Jesus. Peace doesn’t mean passivity, it’s a strong, Spirit-led calm that steadies our hearts in all circumstances.
  • White represented Faithfulness and Righteousness portrayed by Esther meaning “Star and Mary meaning Beloved or Exalted One.”Esther, a woman of courage, wisdom, providence and beauty; and Mary highly favored by God, representing purity, faith, worship and reflection, both the embodiment of God’s ideal of trust and commitment. Faithfulness builds the kind of legacy that blesses generations. The quiet influence of a righteous woman is powerful.

The weekend was packed but bore powerful messages that reminded wives of God’s ideal for them and challenged them greatly to live out those ideals. It was a stark reminder of the position a wife holds in the family and the responsibility that accompanies that position. It reminded us that though very challenging, all things are possible with God when our total dependence is on Him alone.
