Stewardship training seminars

By  Sergena Obas

From March 2 to 4, around 50 people gathered at the Lafontaine Seventh-day Adventist Church. While some were stepping into the building for the very first time, they weren’t there to admire the architecture. What drew them in was a powerful series of seminars on Stewardship, centered around the theme: “Managing to Better Serve.”

Pastor Marcos Bomfim, director of Stewardship Department, General Conference

The guest speaker was Pastor Marcos Bomfim, the worldwide Director of Stewardship Ministries at the General Conference. On Friday evening, he began by sharing the struggles of his youth, when he was following in the footsteps of the prodigal son and living life on his own terms. As expected, things only got worse: he kept bad company, was broke, depressed, and began questioning whether life was even worth living. His father, a pastor, reminded him of the house rules—no compromises. As long as he lived under his roof, he had to attend family worship, go to church, and respect the household values.

Eventually, Pastor Bomfim turned his life around and enrolled in a theology school in his native Brazil. But was he walking with God yet? Not quite. Still, because God was actively seeking him, he finally surrendered his heart. As a reward, God brought a wonderful young woman into his life who became a pillar of support in his ministry. Today, Pastor Bomfim delights in spending time with God every morning in prayer and meditation. His face glows with joy as he boldly proclaims the final message to the world.

I was deeply moved and inspired by his testimony! But that wasn’t all. On Sabbath afternoon and Sunday morning, Pastor Bomfim delivered more enlightening seminars, including The Biblical Foundation of Tithing” and “How to Increase Offerings.” His teachings aligned perfectly with the motto of the Stewardship Department: “All of me in response to all of You.”

Each session was energized by the powerful theme song that stirred hearts and called for dedication:
I will praise You with all my strength, I will worship You with all I have. I lay down my life at Your feet and give You my whole being.”

Stewardship directors and church elders were eager to hear these profound messages. Some were running out of ideas and were looking for practical ways to establish this ministry in their local churches. Despite other obligations—some even attending funerals—many rushed back to church to avoid missing a single moment.

Churches from across Quebec were represented. Tania Assigbley, the wife of Pastor Believe, warmly welcomed attendees with thoughtful gift bags. Pastor Believe, who worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the weekend, was fully satisfied with the outcome. He is already planning a large rally for all Quebec members in December, where experts will present the Seven Principles of Stewardship.

These seminars not only inspired spiritual growth but also encouraged personal development. Those who seek to manage their lives according to God’s order, in order to serve Him better, will ultimately be transformed into radiant and noble individuals.
